"In terms of alcohol and drugs, yes. But it's not about the fame, though," Cooper replied, adding: "But I was lucky. I got sober at 29 and I've been sober for 19 years, I've been very lucky."

"It made it easier to be able to really get in there," Cooper replied.
"And thank God I was at a place in my life where I was comfortable with all of that, so I could let myself go," he continued.
"I've been very lucky with the roles I've had to play. It has been a real blessing. I hope I can continue to do it," added Cooper.
In an exclusive clip from the episode previously shared with People, Cooper also talked about how his father dying of lung cancer in 2011 affected his outlook on life.
"I definitely had a nihilistic attitude for a while," he said.
“I don't know, it wasn't good for a while, until I realized I had to embrace who I really am and try to find some peace with that. And then it was somehow fixed," he added at the time.
Cooper also opened up to Grylls about how his father's death has affected his experience as a father.
