Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, was due to be in Washington on Wednesday to sign the rare earth minerals agreement.

But a source told Reuters that the US was pushing Ukraine to sign two additional documents, as well as the main agreement on minerals.

The Trump administration asked Ukraine to sign all three documents related to the agreement, but Kiev felt they were not yet ready, Politico reported.

"All three documents are due to be signed today, but the Ukrainians are trying to reopen the terms that have already been agreed as part of the package - that will depend on the Ukrainians, as the US is ready to sign it," a source told the newspaper.

The US told Svyrydenko not to travel to Washington on Wednesday if the deals were not finalized, according to the newspaper.
