A sudden fire has forced the immediate evacuation of the major UN climate change summit, COP30, taking place in the Brazilian city of Belem.
Media reports said they saw large flames and thick smoke coming from the pavilion area, before everyone was ordered to evacuate urgently.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and there are no reports of injuries, but thousands of delegates, negotiators, activists and journalists from around the world were forced to abandon the conference halls.
The irony is great, the most important summit of the year to save the planet from fires and global warming was interrupted precisely by a fire. Brazilian authorities are investigating, while organizers say they will announce soon if and when the conference will resume.
