As of Monday, 8.3 million Floridians cast their ballots by early voting and by mail, according to Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd.
More than 560,000 Floridians have already voted this morning, Byrd said during a news conference.
All 67 election supervisors in the state are reporting normal activity this morning, Byrd added. All polling stations are open and no problems have been reported, he said.
The results of the Florida election will be known before you go to sleep, Byrd said. Polls will remain open until 7:00 p.m. Florida time.
The secretary of state was asked about the incident reported in the state after a driver found a box and bag of ballots in the middle of the road in Miami-Dade.
"Even though it was an inadvertent mistake with the ballots falling off the back of the truck, that individual was suspended," Byrd said.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy in terms of ensuring the integrity of our elections... I think this proves that the system works. The matter was dealt with very quickly and swiftly and we had security measures in place," added Byrd.
Byrd also commented on the recent arrest of an 18-year-old man near Jacksonville, who officials say "knocked him" outside an early polling place.
"Listen, there's always going to be hard-nosed people in elections, and law enforcement in Neptune Beach took care of that very quickly," Byrd said.
