Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Ukraine is preparing to restore diplomatic relations with Syria.

"We are preparing to restore diplomatic relations with Syria and cooperation in international organizations," Zelensky said after hearing a report from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha, who visited Syria on Monday.

The results of the negotiations in Damascus are security and economic prospects, Zelensky said, adding that Ukraine will assist all efforts to stabilize Syria.

"We will create the "Wheat from Ukraine" program for cooperation with the Syrian administration and all partners who are ready to support. We will communicate with the Europeans and America so that the support is as strong as possible," he said on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian Interfax reports.

According to him, "more stability in the Middle East means more peace and trade for all partners."

Sibiha visited Damascus on December 30, where she met with Syrian leader Ahmed al-Shar and the newly appointed head of the foreign ministry, Assad Hassan al-Shaibani.

On December 27, Zelensky announced that 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour went to Syria as part of the “Wheat from Ukraine” humanitarian program in cooperation with the UN World Food Program.
