Vucic: We will not implement the part of the agreement related to Kosovo's

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that his position regarding the agreement on the normalization of relations with Kosovo has not changed "not even one bit" and reiterated that Belgrade will not implement the parts of the agreement related to the membership of Kosovo in the United Nations.

"There are no talks on membership in the United Nations and there is no recognition. Anything else that means a real normalization of relations, without tensions and without conflicts, Serbia will implement", declared Vučić on March 21 after meeting in Belgrade with the chief diplomat of Italy, Antonio Tajani.

At the meeting in Ohrid, North Macedonia on March 18, Kosovo and Serbia agreed on the Annex for the implementation of the Agreement towards the normalization of relations between them.

Although the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, did not sign any documents in Ohrid, European mediators said they expect the parties to implement everything the leaders agreed on.

Kosovo and Serbia agreed that they will not block the implementation of any article of the agreement.

The agreement, also known as the European proposal, requires Belgrade not to prevent Kosovo from joining international organizations.

Kosovo, on the other hand, has agreed to work on providing an appropriate level of self-management of the Serbian community in Kosovo, based on the preliminary agreements reached in the dialogue.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, declared on March 21 that international factors should "punish" Serbia for not signing the agreement in Ohrid.

"The other side cannot speak like this against Kosovo's membership in international organizations, including the United Nations, it cannot speak about how it will never recognize Kosovo, given that the Basic Agreement is de facto recognition. So, I believe that this is essential for the process and it is important that all our partners, allies, friends of the democratic countries in the West, and not only, continue to stand by Kosovo when we are constructive, committed, and creative as never", declared Kurti.
The agreement towards normalization does not explicitly mention mutual recognition, but it states that the parties must respect each other's independence, autonomy and territorial integrity.

In Ohrid, the parties agreed that the agreement should become an integral part of the European integration process of Kosovo and Serbia.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, declared on March 21 that he would like "peace to reach Ukraine immediately, because this would make Serbia's position easier".

"I am not interested in who will win and who will lose. Citizens of Serbia are only interested in peace," said Vucic.

He repeated that the war in Ukraine "has made Serbia's position several times more difficult", but added that "we managed to maintain peace".

Although Serbia has supported several UN resolutions condemning the Russian occupation of Ukraine, Serbia is one of the few European states that have refused to join EU policy and impose sanctions on Russia. REL
