A scandalous video is circulating online, where the Dalai Lama is seen inside a temple in India asking a little boy to suck his tongue.

The 87-year-old spiritual leader is seen kissing the boy on the lips and then telling him to "suck my tongue", pulling it out and approaching the boy, who walks away from the Dalai Lama.

The reactions have been many, as they called this act shameful and scandalous. In a statement, the Dalai Lama apologized to his son and his family.

"His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and in front of the cameras," the statement said.

The primary spiritual leader of the "Yellow Hat" school of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is revered by millions as the reincarnation of his 13 ancestors.
