Four people have lost their lives as a result of an avalanche in the French Alps. The news was made known by the Minister of the Interior of France, Gerald Darmanin, according to whom this balance is provisional, as the rescue teams are still working.

The incident happened on the Armancette glacier near Mount Blanc in southeastern France around noon yesterday.

The victims are believed to be among a group of climbers, while officials from the Haute-Savoie prefecture put the number of injured at nine.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the victims and their loved ones.

Before the incident, the nearby Contamines-Montjoie ski resort released a video on social media showing a large wall of snow descending from the Dômes de Miage, of which the glacier is a part.

The resort urged people to be careful if they were venturing off the groomed slopes.

Officials warned that another avalanche could hit.
