The media in Russia have published an unusual call made by Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout to former US President Donald Trump.

Through a message on "Telegram" sent to Trump, Bout, who was released from prison last year as part of a prisoner exchange between Russia and the USA, has warned Trump that his life is in danger.

"The Biden administration won't stop at just throwing you in the penitentiary industrial complex. They will kill you sooner or later before they allow you to make money," Bout is quoted as saying.

He has called on Donald Trump to seek refuge in Russia, "a safe haven from where you can lead the war for the American people".

Bout was arrested in Thailand in 2008 for arms trafficking and extradited to the US in 2012.
