Arab and Muslim countries condemn Netanyahu's statement on Greater Israel

A coalition of Arab and Muslim countries has "severely" condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements regarding his vision of a "Greater Israel". When interviewer Sharon Gal from the Israeli channel i24NEWS asked Netanyahu if he adhered to a "vision" of a "Greater Israel", Netanyahu replied "absolutely".

Asked during the interview broadcast on Tuesday if he felt connected to the vision of "Greater Israel," Netanyahu replied: "Very strongly."

The concept of "Greater Israel" supported by ultranationalist Israelis is understood to imply an expansionist vision that includes claims over the occupied West Bank, Gaza, parts of Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Jordan.

"These statements represent a gross disregard and an open and dangerous violation of the rules of international law and the foundations of sustainable international relations," said a joint statement by a coalition of 31 Arab and Islamic countries and the Arab League.

"They also pose a direct threat to Arab national security, the sovereignty of states and regional and international peace and security," the statement issued on Friday said.

The signatories of the declaration included the secretaries general of the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Arab and Islamic countries also condemned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's announcement on Thursday to continue with the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The statement added that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.
