US President Joe Biden condemned as "unjust" the attempt by the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to seek arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alongside those of the militant group Hamas over their actions during the seven-month war in Gaza.

In a scathing statement, President Biden denounced the attorney general's request to arrest Mr. Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, saying that "whatever the prosecutor wanted to say, there is no parallel between Israel and Hamas."

"We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security," Mr. Biden added.

Chief Justice Karim Khan charged Prime Minister Netanyahu, Minister Gallant and three Hamas leaders Yehia Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh with war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip and Israel.

A three-judge panel will decide whether to issue warrants and allow the case to proceed.

Even Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized this decision, raising questions about the court's jurisdiction and its process for making this request. According to him, this could jeopardize negotiations for a ceasefire or an agreement on hostages.

"Basically, this decision does not bring any good. It will jeopardize all the efforts made so far," said Blinken.
