Russia has admitted that a Ukrainian attack destroyed a warship in the Crimean port of Feodosia.

Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday that its air force had destroyed the Novocherkassk ship, as President Volodymyr Zelensky joked on social media that the Russian vessel had now joined "the Russian Black Sea submarine fleet".

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed President Vladimir Putin "about the damage to the large landing craft" in "a very detailed report," presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

Ukraine's air force said it attacked a Russian navy ship at a base in Russian-occupied Crimea that Kiev claimed was carrying drones for war use.

The Novocherkassk, a large landing craft, was destroyed in its air strike, Ukraine's air force said on the Telegram messaging platform on Tuesday.

One person was killed and four wounded in the attack, Crimea's Moscow-based governor Sergey Aksyonov said, adding that six buildings were damaged and their residents evacuated.

Aksyonov said the attack caused a fire that was later brought under control.

The ship is part of the Russian Black Sea fleet, which has so far lost at least 5 other ships as well as a submarine from missile or water drone attacks by the Ukrainian army.

Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, a move Ukraine and the West condemned as illegal.
