President Donald Trump has said the United States should take control of Greenland to maintain "world peace." The statement comes as Vice President JD Vance is visiting the Danish-controlled territory, inspecting the US military base at Pituffik.

During a conference in the Oval Office, Trump said that Greenland is a strategic territory that the US cannot ignore.

"We need Greenland. It's not a matter of choice, it's a necessity for international security," he said.

According to Trump, climate change has eased access to Arctic waterways, making the region a key point for global defense.

Trump argued that Russia and China are exploiting this space for their own interests and that the US cannot rely on Denmark to guarantee the security of the region.

"If you look at Greenland now, you will see Russian and Chinese ships everywhere. We will not wait for anyone else to solve this situation," he added.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha are visiting the US military base in Greenland, where they are reviewing the strategic importance of the region.

Vance sharply criticized Denmark, saying that the Danish government has not done enough to ensure the stability of the territory.

“This has to happen because our friends in Denmark have not done their job to secure this area,” Vance said. He added that Greenland has an important role in global security and that the US cannot ignore the threat from Russia and China.

Vance's visit has been seen as a provocation by Copenhagen and Nuuk, the island's capital, with Danish and Greenlandic leaders having strongly opposed any US attempt to take control of the territory.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the visit "unacceptable pressure" and stressed that the US must respect Greenland's sovereignty.

Meanwhile, plans for a broader visit by Usha to Greenland were canceled due to the refusal of local residents to meet with him and warnings of protests.

Despite Denmark's objections, Trump has made it clear that the US will not give up Greenland, considering it vital to "world security."
