Ilaria Sula, the 22-year-old Albanian student at La Sapienza, was murdered in Italy by her boyfriend, Mark Antony Samson. Last week, the extreme act caused a stir across the Adriatic, while public opinion condemned the case.
However, in Italy, a shocking incident occurred in under-17 football, when a football coach threatened the 17-year-old referee of the match by forcing his way into the locker room and telling her that "you should end up like Ilaria Sula, you should have been killed when you were little."
At half-time in Terni, during the match between Sangemini and Sporting Terni, Sporting Terni coach Ernesto Galli forced his way into the dressing room and threatened the referee in high-pitched tones. "You should have been killed when you were little. You should end up like Ilaria. At this point the knives come out," the threat is reported to have been.
For this reason, the sports judge has suspended Ernesto Galli, the coach who committed the violations, until December 31, 2028, in addition to a fine of 500 euros for the club.
The referee then sent off the coach for “very serious sexist insults and various threats,” as reported in the official press release of the National Amateur League. Despite the expulsion, Galli did not leave the field, worsening his situation.
"During the second half," the disciplinary committee continues, "he returned to the field, but the delegate present immediately took care to force him back out. After he went out, Galli began to insult the referee again, using derogatory phrases and simulating the barking of a dog. Finally, he was addressed by the parents present, saying that the referee had gone too far by ending his team."
Ilaria Sula was murdered by her boyfriend on March 26, who then stuffed her body into a suitcase and dumped it in a wooded area outside Rome. The Albanian student's body was found after a week-long search, with the perpetrator immediately arrested.
