At least 113 people have died and 150 others have been injured after a fire broke out at a wedding in northern Iraq. Hundreds of people were celebrating in Al-Hamdaniya in Iraq's northern Nineveh province when fire broke out at the venue late on Tuesday evening, Reuters reports.

The fire broke out at a large event hall in the northeastern region after fireworks were set off during a celebration, local civil defense said. According to the reported information, the building was made of highly flammable construction materials, contributing to the rapid spread of the flames.

Eyewitnesses said hundreds of people were there partying when the building caught fire around 10:45 a.m. local time. One wedding party, who suffered a hand burn, said the bride and groom were slow dancing when "fireworks started going up to the ceiling, and the whole hall went up in flames".

"We couldn't see anything," the 17-year-old told AFP news agency. "We were drowning, we didn't know how to get out"./abcnes.al
