A tragic event has shocked the community of Rio Verde de Mato Grosso in Brazil, where a 2-year-old child accidentally killed his mother after he managed to grab an unattended firearm.
According to CNN reports, the incident occurred inside the family's apartment and was recorded by a security camera.
In the footage, the toddler is seen approaching a table and picking up a ' Glock 9 mm ' type weapon.
As his mother, Deborah Rodriguez Monteiro, 27, notices and distracts him, the child pulls the trigger, fatally shooting him in the chest and arm.
Her husband, Daniel Felismino, immediately intervened, removed the gun and tried to help his partner, but his efforts were in vain. The victim was transported to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
The gunman, the child's father, who works as a farmer and holds an official permit to carry a gun, is expected to face charges of involuntary manslaughter.
He is currently at large, while authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
At the same time, assessments are being made of the child's psychological state and well-being to determine whether Child Protective Services will be involved in this case.
The tragedy raises major concerns about gun safety within family settings and the need for broader awareness.
