Donald Trump, who 'abandoned' the G7 meeting and departed on Air Force One, denied that he left the summit to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said French President Emmanuel Macron was wrong when he said he was returning to Washington for ceasefire talks.
“He doesn’t know why I’m headed to Washington,” Trump wrote. “But it has nothing to do with the ceasefire. It’s a much bigger issue.”
Trump did not provide further details, but ended the post with the words: "Stay connected!"
On the other hand, Macron said at the G7 summit in Canada that Trump's departure was a positive sign, as the aim was to achieve a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
"There is an offer for a meeting and talks, to achieve a ceasefire and then start further discussions," Macron said.
Finally, Axios reported that the White House was planning a meeting between American and Iranian officials this week to discuss the nuclear deal.
