US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly had a very tense phone conversation, following the expansion of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

According to Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, who works for the American media outlet Axios, Iran's announcement that it would halt negotiations with the US due to the Jewish state's actions in Lebanon angered Trump, who harshly criticized the Israeli prime minister, saying he was leading his country toward isolation and damaging negotiations with the Islamic Republic.

“You are completely out of control. If it weren’t for me, you would be in jail. I’m saving your skin. Now everyone hates you. Everyone hates Israel because of this story,” Trump is alleged to have said.

Another source quoted by the journalist confirmed that Trump was "furious" and that at one point he shouted at Netanyahu: "What the hell are you doing?" The cause of Trump's anger, as the media in question explains, was the fact that the Israeli offensive in Lebanon risked sabotaging negotiations between the US and Iran.

According to sources, the US president considered the Israeli response disproportionate, especially due to the high number of civilian casualties and the destruction of buildings to eliminate certain Hezbollah targets.

However, publicly Trump described the call as "very productive," stating that there would be no Israeli ground operations in Beirut and that Hezbollah had agreed to stop armed clashes.

He also added that negotiations with Iran are continuing at a rapid pace.

Even Netanyahu, officially, has not changed his stance and continues to threaten attacks on Hezbollah, however, according to Axios, throughout the conversation with Trump, he has been under great pressure.
