The first meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, after the Constitutional Court's decision, did not bring any solution to the president's issue.

On Monday, in the premises of the Kosovo Parliament, the two political leaders spent over two hours, but shared few details about the discussions.

"Nobody wants elections, not even the Democratic League of Kosovo. We are trying to find a common solution through meetings. We do not have any new movement, any new political circumstances from today's meeting. We are transparent with you and with each other. The meetings will continue in the coming days," said Abdixhiku.

Abdixhiku's stance against the elections filled Prime Minister Kurti with optimism, who said he is hopeful for a solution to the president's name by April 28.

"I continue to be optimistic that, with such meetings and talks, we will be able to reach a political agreement, but I cannot say that we have this today. Only the constructive atmosphere, on the one hand, and the willingness to avoid new elections, which are not a new solution, on the other hand, makes me optimistic for these remaining three weeks," said Prime Minister Kurti.

Abdixhiku confirmed that they have not changed their position regarding the political affiliation of the next president, that he should not come from the Vetëvendosje Movement.

He also announced that he will meet with the leader of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, and the leader of the AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, to understand their positions.

"Any agreement that ensures the necessary quorum for the future president of the Republic of Kosovo is welcome. For this reason, discussions are needed with all political parties to have certainty, but, on the contrary, any agreement that ensures the minimum number of necessary votes is sufficient, whoever is around it. No, we have not discussed specific names yet. As you know, the process has started, there are two candidacies. LDK continues to believe that all three positions cannot belong to one political party ," Abdixhiku said.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that he will try to hold a meeting with PDK leader Bedri Hamza, but stressed that there should be no insistence on an agreement that foresees the next president coming from this party.

"I hope that, in the following communications and meetings with the PDK chairman, this will change, because there can be no political agreement on the next president as long as you never tell anyone, not even a single name ," Kurti said.

By decision of the Constitutional Court, the Kosovo Parliament has until the end of this month to elect a new head of state; otherwise, the country will go to new elections.

So far, with the signatures of the Vetëvendosje Movement MPs, there are two candidacies: that of Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku.
