White House: US-Iran talks to resolve disputes were positive and constructive

US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Stephen Whittock, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and had "very positive and constructive" talks, the White House announced today.

“Special Envoy Witkoff emphasized to Dr. Araghchi that he had been instructed by President Trump to resolve the differences between our two countries through dialogue and diplomacy, if possible,” the White House said.

"These issues are very complex and Special Envoy Witkoff's direct communication today is a step forward in reaching a mutually beneficial agreement," the statement added, which explained that "the parties agreed to meet again next Saturday."

These talks are taking place despite Donald Trump's threats to take military action against Iran if the Islamic Republic does not reach an agreement on its nuclear program.
