The US and South Korea have reached a historic agreement to prevent North Korea's nuclear threat. Washington has agreed to station US nuclear submarines in South Korea and involve Seoul in nuclear planning operations.

As part of this agreement, South Korea has agreed not to develop its own nuclear weapons.

The President of the USA, Joe Biden, has stated that this agreement will strengthen the cooperation of the allies in preventing an attack by North Korea.

According to a senior official, the new agreement is the result of negotiations that took place over several months.

Concern has grown on both sides about the nuclear threat posed by North Korea. Pyongyang is developing tactical nuclear weapons that can target South Korea and is developing its own long-range weapons that can reach the US territory.

The US has an obligation to defend South Korea and has previously vowed to use nuclear weapons if necessary.
