German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not threatened either him or Germany.
He made these statements in an interview for the German newspaper, Bild. The former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has told the British broadcaster, BBC, that the Russian leader has threatened him with a missile attack that could happen "within a minute".
The Kremlin has said that Johnson lied. Scholz said that in the talks he had with Putin, he made it clear that they have very different positions on the war in Ukraine.
"I make it very clear to Putin that Russia is solely responsible for the war," said Scholz.
"Russia has invaded its neighbor without reason, to take some parts or all of Ukraine under its control", said Scholz.
Germany believes that Russia's actions violate the European framework for peace, which is why it has offered Ukraine financial, humanitarian and military aid.
Scholz has said that there is an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that weapons provided by the West should only be used on Ukrainian territory, not Russian.
"We have a consensus in this aspect".
After increasing pressure, the German Government has recently approved the decision to send modern Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Scholz said that the delivery of these weapons was carefully coordinated with the Western allies, so as to avoid further escalations.
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, calls the war started on February 24 of last year as a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions. As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes.
