Satanic child sexual abuse rituals, Australian police dismantle international

Australian police have arrested four men in Sydney suspected of being part of an “international satanic network” involved in the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material. Authorities say investigations are ongoing and the victims have not yet been identified.

Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty, of the New South Wales (NSW) sexual crimes squad, said the group allegedly shared "extremely disgusting" material depicting children aged from infants to 12, as well as acts of animal abuse. She said the content included ritualistic elements, symbols and themes related to Satanism and the occult.

"Police will allege in court that this international group was engaging in conversations and sharing material depicting child abuse and child torture including symbols and rituals associated with Satanism and the occult. Thousands of videos were found on electronic devices seized during simultaneous raids on properties in Sydney last week. Among these deplorable images were a number of videos depicting the sexual abuse of animals," she said.

During six raids carried out last week in Sydney, police seized electronic devices where "thousands of files" of abuse material were found.

A police video shows the arrest of a 26-year-old man in Waterloo, considered a key figure in the group. He was charged with possession, distribution and making available of child sexual abuse material, as well as possession of animal abuse material.

The other three arrested, aged 46, 42 and 39, were detained in Malabar on similar charges. All were refused bail and are expected to appear in court in January.

The operation was part of Strike Force Constantine, a task force set up in April to investigate international networks involved in the distribution of child abuse material with ritualistic elements. Police are continuing to analyse the seized material to identify the children involved and other members of the network.

Doherty described the case as "particularly shocking" because of the ritualistic nature that accompanied the group's communications and activity.
