Furious Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent " revenge " squads into occupied Crimea to hunt down any locals who helped Kiev shoot down his warship.

The move comes amid revelations that the Russian tyrant has vowed to drag out his brutal war of destruction in Ukraine for at least another five years.

As a Christmas present to Putin, Ukraine launched a British Storm Shadow missile attack that sank a Russian flagship in annexed Crimea.

Explosions that destroyed the warship Novocherkassk lit up the sky over Moscow's naval bastion on Boxing Day, killing possibly dozens of servicemen.

A Ukrainian Su-24 supersonic jet reportedly fired the cruise missile that tore apart the ship, which was said to be loaded with Iranian suicide drones.

At least 52 men among the 77 on board have been reported missing or injured as a result of the attack.

But up to 100 people could have been killed in the attack, military analyst Yan Matveev told The Times.

Putin, who is said to be "absolutely furious", appears to have ordered death squads to hunt down anyone working for the resistance inside the occupied peninsula.

The Ukrainian partisan group Atesh said on Telegram: “The handle of repression is turning. Local residents have been raided throughout the city, their smartphones are being taken from them and their homes are being searched.”

The resistance group, which says its aim is to "destroy the Russian military from within", argued: "Putin is reportedly completely furious over the destruction of the large landing craft Novocherkassk."

The group also stated that Putin intends to remove top commanders based in Crimea and send them to the Russian meat grinder attacks on the front.

The coup for Kiev had come amid reports surfacing that Putin told Chinese President Xi Jinping in March that Russia "will fight for at least five years" in Ukraine.

In an effort to downplay the lack of visible gains on the battlefield, he tried to reassure Xi that Russia would emerge victorious in the end, Nikkei Asia reports, citing sources.

He allegedly hinted that a protracted war would favor China's key ally at their meeting in Moscow.

Last week, Putin told his generals that his war aims have not changed and declared: "We will not give up what is ours."

However, he quickly added: "If they want to negotiate, let them negotiate."

Today, Putin's main ally, Dmitry Medvedev , criticized Kiev for allegedly refusing to negotiate a possible ceasefire.

He declared that the talks were "possible" and claimed that "Russia has never rejected them, unlike the crazy Ukrainian authorities."

The Kremlin has reportedly signaled since September that they are open to a ceasefire provided Russia holds on to occupied Ukrainian territories, insiders say.

The New York Times reported that former senior Russian officials said the Kremlin had used back-channel diplomacy to signal they were open to negotiations.

However, some analysts have suggested a ploy by Putin to suggest he is open to securing peace ahead of the 2024 presidential election in March.

Such a move is likely to favor him in the polls, although he is certain to win the sham elections.

As Kiev blew the warship out of the water on Boxing Day, Russia fired missiles at the Kherson railway station as 140 people tried to leave the station.

At least one person was killed and several others injured in the attack that destroyed the train they were trying to board, according to witnesses.
