Gypsy Rose Blanchard, whose name you've probably seen on TikTok, has been released from prison. The 32-year-old woman was released after serving an 8-year sentence for the second-degree murder of her mother, Claudine, known by the nickname "Dee Dee". Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The murder of "Dee Dee" in 2015 shocked public opinion in the US, especially after it was ordered by her daughter.
Gypsy expressed remorse for planning the murder, saying her mother didn't deserve it, but at the time, she wasn't educated enough to do better.
Since she was a baby, the daughter of "Dee Dee" has suffered from the obsessions of her mother, who claimed all the time that her daughter was sick. She forced the girl to sit in a wheelchair and not speak for a long time. "Dee Dee" is said to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome, known as a rare disorder in which a person invents (or exaggerates) a child's illness in order to gain attention and sympathy from others.
For years, "Dee Dee" had convinced the girl that she was suffering from an illness. She lived with her mother, who deceived her about the symptoms of the disease. She started pretending and saying that her daughter was suffering from various diseases since she was a baby.
Gypsy Rose was born in 1991 and "Dee Dee" said her daughter suffered from sleep apnea. When the girl was 8 years old, "Dee Dee" said that she suffered from leukemia and muscular dystrophy, so she needed to move around in a wheelchair and was fed with serums. The list of ailments from which Gypsy Rose "suffered" grew, including seizures, asthma, as well as impaired vision and hearing.
"Dee Dee" forced her daughter to sleep with devices that help provide the patient with oxygen. Gypsy Rose underwent many surgeries, including eye surgery. Also, she had her salivary gland removed, which caused tooth decay (other causes may be: neglect, high number of medications), dentists removed all her teeth.
Indeed, contrary to what her mother claimed, Gypsy Rose could walk, feed herself, and did not suffer from any disease. She had been waxing for many years, as she had shaved her head since she was a baby.
Since "Dee Dee" was portrayed as a devoted and pious mother, people believed her and felt sorry for her. She followed her daughter's cases with different doctors and when the tests showed that her daughter was healthy and the doctors communicated the results to her, she stopped consulting her daughter with them. In order to get money, some doctors became party to her scams.

"Dee Dee" had done some training as a nurse, so she described the symptoms in detail, and in some cases, even imitated them. On the other hand, people thought that she was a very good and loving mother to her daughter, whom she advised not to reveal anything about the meetings with the doctors.
She told Gypsy Rose's father, Rod Blanchard, that her daughter had a chromosomal disorder that had led to many different health problems. When his family noticed that Gypsy Rose didn't actually need a wheelchair and started raising questions, "Dee Dee" took the girl and left.
As a professional liar, "Dee Dee" claimed to be a survivor of Hurricane Katrina and received help moving to Missouri in 2005. There, she continued to follow her daughter to doctors.
Even when the girl was a teenager, "Dee Dee" still claimed she was sick and even started lying about Gypsy's age. In 2008, they moved to a new house. "Dee Dee" received various benefits through charity concerts and many compliments for being a hero mother.
In 2009, an anonymous report was submitted to authorities saying that Dee Dee's accounts of her daughter's ailments had no medical basis. Based on this, employees visited their home, but "Dee Dee" convinced them that there was nothing wrong.
As Gypsy grew older, "Dee Dee" began to lie more and more about her age, even going so far as to change her date of birth to convince others that the girl was younger. Growing up Gypsy Rose, however, "Dee Dee" had a hard time controlling her.
In 2012, Gypsy tried to leave her mother, but "Dee Dee" tracked her down and recaptured her through mutual friends. According to Gypsy Rose, when they returned home, her mother broke her computer and tied her to the bed, adding that on several occasions, her mother would hit her and not let her eat. Gypsy managed to access the internet. She joined a Christian dating site and met Nicholas Godejohn. She told him about her mother's actions and asked him to help her kill her.
In 2015, Nicholas went to their home and stabbed Dee Dee while she was locked in the bathroom. He shot Dee Dee 17 times and then went to Gypsy's room where he had sex.
After the murder, they took the bus and left to his house, where they were found by the police. Gypsy did not cover up the crime, instead, she posted a status on Facebook where she wrote: "That motherfucker is dead." According to her, she did this to find her mother's body.
After Dee Dee's death, many people asked Gypsy why she had gone so far as to kill her mother. Considering she could walk and talk, she might just expose her mother's lies to the public. But Gypsy thought no one believed and was afraid of what her mother might do to her.
The fact that Gypsy Rose had spent her entire life being controlled by her mother, not allowing her to go to school, speak or communicate, prompted her to take such action.
