Putin attacks Macron: He will return the time of Napoleon, but forgets how it
Russian President Vladimir Putin

"Russia will never give up what is its own," Russian President Vladimir Putin declared at a meeting with employees and beneficiaries of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation.

"We don't need anything that belongs to others, but we won't give up what is ours," Putin said, as reported by the Ria Novosti news agency.

Putin also responded to statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who said that Europe should double its investments in armaments.

"There are people in the world who want to go back to the times of Napoleon's campaign, but they forget how it ended."

"All the mistakes of our enemies began here: underestimating the character of the Russian people," Vladimir Putin further said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also compared Macron to Napoleon and Hitler, saying that they "openly said" that they wanted to "conquer" and "defeat" Russia, while, in Lavrov's words, Macron "apparently wants the same thing, but says that it is necessary to fight Russia so that it does not defeat France and become a danger to Europe."
