Nobel Peace Prize: Trump, Guterres and Pope among nominees

The Norwegian Nobel Institute announced that the nominations for this year's Nobel Peace Prize reach 338, of which 244 are individuals and 94 are organizations.

The number of nominations this year has increased significantly compared to 286 in 2024. However, it remains lower than the record of 376 candidates nominated in 2016.

US Congressman Darrell Aisha announced in a post on X that he is nominating US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that "no one deserves it more." The congressman's office explained that Trump's efforts for peace in the Middle East prompted Aisha to take this initiative.

At the same time, Ukrainian media reports that MP Oleksandr Mereshko has been nominating Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize since last November, in an attempt to attract the Republican tycoon's attention, immediately after his victory in the US elections.

Norwegian parliamentarians announced that they have also nominated former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Pope Francis, according to foreign media.

Last year, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo.
