Farmers' protests, the first victory is marked, Von der Leyen: We will give

In the plenary session of the European Parliament, the president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, declared that she will propose the "withdrawal" of the regulation on pesticides. The regulation in question "has turned into a symbol of polarization", she explained, emphasizing that a new, more mature proposal will be made in the future. She added that farmers deserve to be heard.

Von der Leyen admitted that farmers need a better business opportunity, for measures to improve nature and perhaps so far such a point has not been convincingly reached. For this reason she proposed a real incentive that goes beyond simple loss of yield. Subsidies, according to her, can provide such incentives.

The issue in question, which has sparked protests by thousands of farmers across Europe, continues to shake up the European Union. Ursula von der Leyen also referred to the launch of the strategic dialogue on the future of the agricultural sector.

A few days after the arrival of tractors on the streets of Brussels, as well as the incidents outside the European Parliament, the President of the Commission referred to the important role of the agricultural sector. She pointed out the difficulties faced by the sector and emphasized that farmers are the first to feel the effects of climate change, facing floods and drought, among others.

Many of them feel abandoned, as they are the first to feel the impact of the war in Ukraine, inflation, the rising cost of energy and chemical fertilizers. "However, they work hard every day to produce the quality food that is consumed, and for this, we owe them appreciation, thanks and respect," concluded von der Leyen.
