Pistorius in Pristina: The demand of the day is escalation
Boris Pistorius, the Federal Minister of Defense, meets with the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani

Pistorius called for a return to dialogue mediated by the European Union. He said that the establishment of the euro as a single currency should be properly communicated "so that there is no fear and misinformation".

The Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, said in Pristina that Germany is the biggest supporter of Kosovo after the United States of America. He called for measured actions, clearly emphasizing that, "state stability plays a major role not only for the Western Balkans, but also for the whole of Europe".

"The demand of the day is escalation. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has clearly underlined that the future of the Western Balkans is in Europe, but this requires dialogue as a condition and no one should and cannot have an interest in further escalating the situation. Considering the tensions with Serbia, we make a clear call for prudence and caution", said Pistorius, at a press conference in Pristina, after a meeting he held with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.

"After the USA, Germany is one of the biggest supporters of Kosovo, both from a civil and military point of view. This will be the case in the future as well. We are already cooperating successfully in many fields, the best example is the International Center of Search and Rescue and the agreement on the training of officers and non-commissioned officers", said Minister Pistorius. The German Minister of Defense said that he will convey the message of dialogue and de-escalation of the situation to Belgrade as well.

"I assure you that even in Serbia I will make a clear call for dialogue and escalation. This is how we will succeed in getting closer to integration in the European Union. This should be the common goal, which is the membership of the six countries of the region in the EU", said German minister Pistorius.

Pistorius: Establishing the euro as a single currency should be communicated appropriately

On February 1, Kosovo began to implement a Central Bank regulation, which stipulates that the only currency for payments in Kosovo is the euro, thus automatically excluding the use of the Serbian dinar. The postponement of the implementation of this regulation is being requested by the international community. According to the German Minister of Defense Pistorius, Kosovo has the right to implement its legality, but, as he said, "the escalation also includes legitimate measures regarding the establishment of the euro as a single currency, the establishment of which must be communicated in a suitable way, so that no one will be afraid".

"This needs to be communicated more appropriately so that there is no fear and lack of information. These are security guarantees that contribute to peace in general," said Minister Pistorius. He added that "the implementation of the catalog of measures agreed in Ohrid, Macedonia North", should be the main goal.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, for her part, said that "Serbia's state policy is constantly challenging the territorial integrity of Kosovo and is committed to acts of aggression against Kosovo".

Osmani said that "to prevent these attacks in the future, we need the support of Germany, as well as the allies and other Euro-Atlantic partners". armed groups of Serbs killed a Kosovo policeman.
