Genesse Yvonne Moreno

A woman with a child opened fire in a crowded church in Texas before being shot dead by security.

Police have identified her as Genesse Ivonne Moreno , 36, who was with her 7-year-old son who was critically wounded in the Houston shooting. As a result of the shooting, a 57-year-old man was also shot in the thigh.

Investigators stated that the 36-year-old had written "Palestine" on the butt of the rifle and had also discovered anti-Semitic writings, however the motive for the attack is still unclear.

The unidentified son of the armed woman was shot in the head during the exchange of fire and is currently in critical condition. It is not known who shot the boy.

Police said the 36-year-old woman used an AR-15 rifle in the attack. She also had a .22 caliber rifle, but did not fire that weapon.

At a press conference, officials said the attacker had a history of mental health issues and had a restraining order placed against her in 2016.

Public records show Moreno also has a long record of arrests and convictions on assault, drug and weapons charges.

Police said there are suspicions that she had a dispute with her ex-husband's family, some of whom are Jewish.
