President Donald Trump spoke to reporters during an Easter event at the White House.

Asked about possible ceasefire proposals reported today, Trump said: "It's not good enough, but it's a very important step forward."

Trump added that, if it were up to him, he would continue the war to take Iran's oil.

"If it were up to me, I would take the oil, I would keep the oil; we would make a lot of money," he said.

However, he added that the American people want the war to end and he wants to make them "happy."

The US president was also asked how the two American pilots rescued by Iran were doing, whom he said "are doing well."

According to him, the war could end "very quickly" if the Iranian government does "what it needs to do."

Trump said Tuesday's deadline is final, Iran's proposal "is not enough."

Trump also stated that Iran's response to a US proposal to end the conflict was important, but not sufficient.

"They made a proposal, and it's an important proposal. It's an important step. It's not good enough," Trump said.

At one point, referring to the UK, apparently to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said: "We don't want another Neville Chamberlain, do we?"

Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of World War II, who was replaced by Winston Churchill, and is remembered primarily for his policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany before the start of the war.
