Two trains collided on Sunday evening in western Slovakia, causing dozens of injuries, according to the Slovak government.

About 800 passengers were on both trains, traveling between Svätì Jur and Pezinok, about 20 kilometers north of the capital Bratislava, at the time of the collision, authorities said.

"Dozens of them suffered minor injuries," Slovak Interior Minister Matús Sutaj Estok said at the scene of the accident. Eleven people were taken to a hospital in Bratislava, he added, specifying that there were no casualties.

"Police officers at the scene are providing assistance to emergency services," the Bratislava Regional Police said on Facebook, describing the scene as "chaos."

The rail accident involved the Tatra express train from Kosice to Bratislava and a regional express train from Nitra to the capital.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. "The train ran a red light and left the station when it was not supposed to. The second express train crashed into it at over 100 km/h," said Ivan Bednárik, director of Slovak Railways. "Both drivers tested negative for alcohol and drugs," a police spokesman said.
