At least ten police officers and several prisoners were injured in a physical confrontation at the Idrizova prison in Skopje, the North Macedonian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on October 28.
The prisoners, according to moI spokesman Tony Angelovski, resisted during the police effort to search their cells, following information that they were carrying prohibited things.
During the police actions, a larger group of prisoners gathered and actively resisted, but after the measures and actions taken they were defeated. Ten policemen were injured, and some of the prisoners were injured," Angelovski said in a video recording published on the MOI website.
But on social media, many pictures have been washed from the prison cells of Idrizovo, where many prisoners with serious bodily injuries appear.
According to their family, "special units intervened brutally beating dozens of prisoners."
The Idrizovo Prison Directorate has not yet come up with official data regarding the incident at the Idrizovo prison, where crisis measures are still in place due to the lack of guards, and reports of "security threats".
In aid of the prison police, special units and members of the Army of North Macedonia were also put in place. In recent months, the Idrizova prison has faced several scandals, among other things, with the opening of an underground tunnel by prisoners who had planned the escape.
In the prison of Idrizovo, there are about 1,206 prisoners, among them those on life terms.
