Pope Francis: Woman more important than man, but it is ugly when she wants to be
Pope Francis

Pope Francis spoke today about the role of women in the Church and underlined, in his address to the students of the Catholic University of Louvain, that "violence and injustice weigh together with ideological prejudices".

The Holy Father said that the Church "is female" but it is not "a multinational company" and "what is characteristic of women is not sanctioned by consensus or ideologies".

There is "dignity" which "is a priceless good" that "no human law can give or take away", Francis said.

Starting from this "Christian culture always processes anew, in different contexts, the call and mission of man and woman and their mutual being for each other, in community. Not one against the other, in opposing claims, but for each other".

The Pope finally concluded with an expression: "A woman is more important than a man, but it is ugly when she wants to be a man."
