"In any international situation, dialogue with the Pope is always important for Russia. "The Pope is always a welcome friend."

This was stated by Russian Ambassador to the Vatican, Alexander Avdeev, for the Ria Novosti news agency.

Recently, Pope Francis stated that he was ready to go to Moscow to meet with Russian President Putin, to promote peace in Ukraine.

"We have not yet received an answer and we continue to insist, although I am afraid that Putin can not and does not want to have this meeting now. But so much brutality, how can you not stop it? "Twenty-five years ago we experienced the same thing in Rwanda," Pope Francis said earlier.

He clarified that he will not travel to Kiev at the moment, but will send a representative.

Meanwhile, during a recent meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, the Pope learned that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to end the invasion of Ukraine on May 9, Russia's Victory Day.
