Gruesome footage captured the moment a person fatally hit a Ukrainian refugee from behind while she was sitting on a train in North Carolina, USA.
The barbaric attack happened on August 22, shortly after Iryna Zarutska, 23, boarded a South End train in Charlotte.
Officers identified the knife attacker as a homeless man, Decarlos Brown Jr., 35, who has a lengthy file on criminal charges, including an arrest for assaulting his sister.

He is seen in the footage observing Zarutska for a few seconds as she sat in the seat in front of him, pulling what appeared to be a knife out of his pocket.
He then got up and approached the 23-year-old, pointing the knife at her as she sat with her phone.
Brown was seen leaving a trail of blood all over the train, while other passengers appeared to not understand the murder that had taken place, before he tore his shirt.

He was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with first-degree murder. His conditional release was subsequently refused by a judge and he remains in custody. Zarutska's heartbroken family said on a GoFundMe page that she had only arrived in the US in 2022 'seeking safety from the war' in her home country and 'hoping for a new beginning' before the killing.

She was shot dead from behind the back, without communicating or knowing the perpetrator. The motives of the monstrous crime are unclear.
