'We paid 5 thousand pounds...'/ The captain of the fishing boat tells

It was a fisherman who spotted the boat in the sea where 4 migrants drowned and rescued 43 others in the English Channel. In an interview for "Sky", the captain of the trawler told how he had helped them by saving their lives.

He said those he rescued came from Afghanistan, Iraq, Senegal and India, and told him they had each paid £5,000 to a smuggler in France for passage to England.

So far, there are no reports of Albanian citizens among them, however, the ethnicity of the persons who have died is not known either. Rescuers in the English Channel say they are no longer looking for survival as the water temperature drops to -4C.

A little over a year ago, the worst migrant disaster in the Channel claimed the lives of 31 people. A dinghy full of 34 people capsized while traveling from France to the United Kingdom on November 24, 2021.
