Student attacks mosque with bombs and guns inside school in Indonesia, 50

More than 50 people were injured in an explosion at a mosque inside a school complex in Indonesia.

A large number of students suffered multiple injuries, including severe burns, while the main suspect, a 17-year-old student, was also injured.

According to authorities, investigations are still ongoing, trying to understand how the device could have been assembled and the explosion carried out. A bomb disposal team was sent to the scene to collect evidence and ensure that no other explosive devices were found.

A student witness said he had seen a classmate bring a homemade bomb to school, and said he was often bullied by others.

Others said the suspect was a boy who often stayed alone, and had been seen drawing images with violent content. A school kitchen worker described seeing white smoke coming from the mosque and broken windows after the “massive” explosion.

"Our hearts were beating fast, we couldn't breathe," she said.

Officials called for calm and warned citizens not to rush to label the explosion as a "terrorist act" as investigators continue to analyze the incident.
