US President Donald Trump has just left for Alaska to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
As CNN reports, the US presidential plane "Air Force One" has departed from Joint Base Andrews, bound for Alaska, where an important summit with the Russian president will be held.
As he prepared to board the plane, Trump spoke briefly to reporters, saying he was not going to "negotiate on behalf of Ukraine."
He did not promise to provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of an agreement to end the war, saying he is open to such an idea but that Europe must take the lead.
"Maybe," he told reporters.
Trump made it clear that such measures would not include Ukraine's membership in NATO.
“Not in the form of NATO,” he said. “There are some things that won’t happen.”
Regarding potential trade, Trump claims that Putin "wants a piece" of the American economy and business.
"I notice he's bringing in a lot of businessmen from Russia and that's good, I like that, because they want to do business, but we're not going to do business until the war is resolved," Trump said.
Meanwhile, the names of the officials traveling with President Trump to Alaska have also been revealed.
The list includes 16 people, including:
-Secretary of State Marco Rubio,
-Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent,
-Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick,
-Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
