A disabled nun from Texas was kicked out of her convent for breaking her vow of love to God.

She admits that she exchanged sexually explicit messages with a priest, but they did not have an intimate relationship.

Superior nun Teresa Agnes Gerlach, 43, who is in a wheelchair and fed through a tube, was accused during the hearing of breaking her oath.

"I made a terrible mistake. I was out of my mind. Even a nun can fail," she told Michael Olson, the bishop who was interrogating her.

Gerlach was expelled from the convent she led in Arlington, Texas after the investigation revealed her relationship with priest Bernard Marie.

She has filed a $1 million lawsuit against the bishop and diocese accusing them of invasion of privacy, seizure of electronic devices and defamation.

She says that the leaders of the church said that she broke her oath by ignoring the fact that she did not have sexual relations with the priest and they were caught after her statement that her menstrual cycle was delayed by a month.

Gerlach said she is not a promiscuous nun, even insisting that she had fallen in love with the priest and had crises that affected her judgement.

During a recording played at the hearing, the nun admitted that things had gotten heated on the phone and in video calls, but she had never met the priest.

"Bishop, I want to tell you something. I don't know how to explain it, but that didn't really happen. Not at all. It was all over the phone. Honestly. At that time, I was going through a crisis and I was in a difficult position. I think my brain really went haywire,” she told Olson.

In the meantime, it will be decided whether the scandal will remain in the civil court or will be moved to the Vatican, where a special investigation is being conducted./ New York Post
