After the conclusion of the rescue operation in Iran, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, in a press conference alongside President Donald Trump, shed light on some of the behind-the-scenes details of the mission, which he described as "a task that did not allow for failure."
Ratcliffe stated that intelligence agents were fully committed to returning Air Force members home safely, using all available resources.
Although he could not make all confidential details public, the CIA head confirmed that powerful technological assets and human intelligence on the ground were deployed to locate the missing aviators.
He described the operation as “bold” and a “feverish race against time,” with the key to success being a well-thought-out deception campaign. This strategy served to confuse Iranian forces, who were desperately trying to track down the American military.
At the end of his speech, Ratcliffe revealed the critical moment of the mission: on Saturday evening, agents received confirmation that the missing soldier had managed to find shelter in a mountain crevice. This strategic position, according to the CIA director, was such that it kept him “invisible to enemy eyes, but not to the eyes of American intelligence.”
