Iran celebrates disappearance of 'Butcher of Tehran', others pray to
Ebrahim Raisi

News of the crash of the helicopter carrying Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi has not been met with concern in Tehran alone.

Some foreign media reports on social media that fireworks have been thrown in the capital, hoping for the worst.

On the other hand, thousands of citizens have gathered near religious cults, praying that he will be found alive.

The helicopter crashed due to heavy fog on the border with Azerbaijan, and after more than three hours of searching, it was not yet possible to locate it.

Ebrahim Raisi is also known by the pseudonym "The Butcher of Tehran" after he signed off on the execution of more than 4,000 political prisoners as head of the justice system.

Numerous security forces have been engaged in Tehran, fearing there could be unrest if his death is confirmed.

Traveling with Raisin were Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province and other officials, state news agency IRNA reported.
