Moscow downplays the use of nuclear weapons: Ready to consider a Putin-Biden

Moscow is ready for talks with the West regarding the war in Ukraine, and even for a Putin-Biden meeting. This was said by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavov, who called the claims that Moscow is rejecting talks with the United States untrue.

According to him, a serious proposal was simply missing. " This is a lie. We have not received any serious offer for communication".

Although he accuses the United States of de facto involvement in the conflict with Ukraine, the head of Russian diplomacy said that they are ready to consider a possible proposal for a meeting between Presidents Putin and Biden, during the G20 summit held in November in Indonesia. " We have always said that we never refuse meetings. If there is any proposal, we will consider it ," Lavrov said.

Commenting on the possibility of Turkey brokering talks between Russia and the West, Lavrov said Moscow is willing to listen to any suggestions, but could not say whether these efforts could produce a solution.

The Russian foreign minister said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will have the opportunity to present proposals to Putin when they meet this week in Kazakhstan. Lavrov appeared to take a step back on the possibility of using nuclear weapons.

"Moscow plans such measures only to prevent the annihilation of the country, " Lavrov said.

"I advise those who speculate on this topic to be aware of their responsibility. There is no need to inflate it artificially ," said the head of Russian diplomacy.

"Now I would advise the Americans and their satellites, who are also involved in such exercises, and not only them, but also our analysts and political scientists, to show maximum responsibility when making public remarks," he emphasized.
