US President Donald Trump welcomed in his own way the fact that actor George Clooney and his partner Amal, "two of the worst of all time" in terms of "political predictions", as he said, were granted French citizenship.

He also accused French authorities of "catastrophic management of immigration", which has caused a "huge problem" of crime.

"Good news! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political forecasters of all time, have officially become French citizens," Donald Trump wrote on Twitter via Truth Social.

The Republican president, who has a habit of launching inflammatory attacks on his political opponents, has dramatically escalated his criticism of Europe on immigration since returning to the White House in January 2025.

"Unfortunately, France is currently facing a serious crime problem due to absolutely catastrophic immigration management, similar to what we had here under the sleeping Joe Biden," he added, repeating the disparaging characterization he prefers when referring to his Democratic predecessor in the White House.

Without ever citing reliable statistics, Donald Trump often links crime to immigration.

George Clooney has been a staunch supporter of Democrats for decades. For the Republican president, the actor and director became "more famous for politics than for his few, utterly mediocre films."

His wife, lawyer and human rights defender Amal Clooney , is part of a team of experts who advised the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) who requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galland and three Hamas leaders.

The arrest warrants have angered the Israeli and American governments.

In France, the fact that the actor, his wife and their two children were granted citizenship has caused quite a stir, mainly due to the governmental cacophony it has caused, with a minister in President Emmanuel Macron's government referring to a policy of " double standards ", at a time when the conditions for obtaining it have now become much stricter.
