This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded in equal shares to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and Karl Barry Sharpless for developing the way to "join molecules".

Hans Ellegren, secretary general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, announced the winners on Wednesday at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

The week of the Nobel Prize announcement began on Monday with the award in Medicine honoring a scientist who discovered the secrets of Neanderthal DNA.

Three other scientists jointly won the prize in Physics on Tuesday for showing that tiny particles can maintain a bond with each other even when separated.

The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and Karl Barry Sharpless. 

Three chemists received the Nobel Prize for developing a way to join molecules.
