If a final agreement was reached between Kosovo and Serbia, ending years of hostility, Kosovar Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic could qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This is what the EU's special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, said in an interview for the BBC in the Serbian edition. According to him, he himself has no dilemma about this.
"The normalization of relations would certainly qualify the two leaders for the Nobel Prize, I have no doubt about that," said the mediator of the European Union. The BBC writes that the same was hoped for in 2018, when former president Hashim Thaçi and Vucic negotiated in Brussels.
It was the High Representative of the EU, Federica Mogherini, who had speculated that Thaçi and Vucic could receive the Nobel Peace Prize in case of a successful agreement.
Efforts for a final agreement continue even now, after 4 years, but as the BBC writes, many things have already changed except Vučić's role: talks on changing the borders and exchanging territories between Kosovo and Serbia have been rejected, Hashim Thaçi is being held in custody by The Special Court, Federica Mogherini is far from dialogue and the Trump administration in the US has fallen from power
