The Paris city council has increased the price of entry to the Eiffel Tower to raise more money for the restoration of the tower, as the company that operates the famous architectural building is going bankrupt from next month, tickets for adults will be 20% more expensive.

To take the lift to the top of the tower, visitors now pay €29.40, but from June 17 it will cost €35.30. Paris City Council also supported the recapitalization of the Eiffel Tower's operator, Sete, and reduced the annual fee it charges the operator to run the tower.

The Sete company has been in financial trouble since the Covid-19 pandemic saw the number of tourists visiting the tower and revenues fall by €120 million in 2020 and 2021. Last year, the number of visitors rose to nearly 6 million, as dropped to just 1.5 million in 2020. High renovation costs and recent strikes that blocked the city were a blow to the company's financial situation.

The author of the tower, the architect Gustave Eiffel after the construction of the tower in 1889 recommended that it be repainted every 7 years to avoid its rusting. So far it has been repainted 19 times and since 2010, the 300 meter high tower has not been completely painted.
