With maps and historical documents with him, Putin will try to convince Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin will present US President Donald Trump with "historical materials" to present Ukraine as an artificial state during their summit in Alaska.

This is what the Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine claimed on Thursday, August 14, reports the Kyiv Independent.

According to the center, the package includes geographical maps intended to justify Russia's territorial claims and ongoing military aggression in Ukraine.

The claim comes a day before the first face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump since the start of Trump's second term, talks that the White House has described as part of Washington's effort to end the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation warned that the Kremlin regularly relies on distorted historical narratives to rationalize its actions, portraying Ukraine as historically dependent on Russia and presenting its sovereignty as illegitimate.

Putin has repeatedly used such pseudo-historical arguments in public appearances.

In a 2024 interview with American far-right commentator Tucker Carlson, he delivered a 30-minute monologue on the history of Russia and Ukraine filled with inaccuracies and distortions.
