About 600 former senior Israeli security officials, including former heads of the Mossad, Shin Bet and IDF, have sent a letter to former US President Donald Trump, asking him to intervene to convince Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the war in Gaza, the Jerusalem Post reported.

These former senior officials, along with former senior police and Foreign Ministry leaders, lead the "Commanders for Israel Security" (CIS) group, which now includes over 600 former senior security officials and has made calls to Trump.

According to the Jerusalem Post, this is not the first time that this group has pressured the government to change course and focus more on the return of Israeli hostages and a post-war plan for Gaza. But now they have highlighted how desperate Israel's situation is globally in terms of its legitimacy.

"Stop the war in Gaza! On behalf of the CIS, the largest Israeli group of former IDF generals and the equivalent of Mossad, Shin Bet, police and diplomatic corps, we call on you to stop the war in Gaza. You did it in Lebanon. It is time to do it in Gaza," the CIS letter reads.

The letter states that the IDF has already achieved two objectives that could be achieved by force: “the dismantling of Hamas’ military and government formations. The third, and most important, can only be achieved through an agreement: the return home of all hostages.” In the group’s assessment, Hamas “no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel.”

"Our experience tells us that Israel has everything it needs to deal with the remaining terrorist capabilities, remotely or otherwise. The hunt for the remaining senior Hamas members can be done later. Our hostages cannot wait," the group added.

“Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis,” the CIS addressed Trump, “enhances your ability to turn Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government in the right direction: stopping the war, returning the hostages home, ending the suffering, and creating a regional-international coalition that helps the Palestinian Authority (once reformed) offer the people of Gaza and all Palestinians an alternative to Hamas and its violent ideology.”
