Residents of the Ukrainian city of Boryspil, about 40 kilometres away from Kiev, have been urged to leave the area urgently if they can, while fighting against Russian forces is escalating.
"I call on the civilian population to be smart, contact our call centre and leave the city as soon as possible," mayor Volodymyr Borysenko said through a video message distributed across social media.
He said people should evacuate the city if they are unable to fight, as "fighting is already taking place very close to the area".
Part of the residents are located near Kiev's Boryspil International Airport - Ukraine's largest airport, which was among the main targets of Russian bombing at the start of the offensive.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities said at least 15,300 Russian troops have been killed since the start of the war. Ukraine's Defence Ministry also ranks among the damage caused to Russia by 509 tanks, 1,556 armoured combat vehicles and 252 artillery systems.
Russia has given only once a figure for the loss of its troops on March 2 with 498 dead, while the US recently estimated that about 7,000 Russian troops had been killed in the conflict.
